WhatsApp
Pay, the digital payment service by Whatsapp, has finally
gotten necessary approvals from regulators in India for a phased roll-out.
The Facebook-owned
messaging app is using the country's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) framework
to enable real-time money transfer.
So, if you are in
India, you can try the new service to send or receive money right within the
app.
Here's how…
Set up payments on
WhatsApp (For Android)
Since WhatsApp Pay works on UPI, just make sure the number you use on
the messaging app is registered with your bank account.
To get started, open WhatsApp, tap on menu (three-dots icon), and then
on Payments.
Not everyone will see the Payments option
WhatsApp Pay is being rolled out in a phased manner and not everyone
will see the Payments options just yet.
To enable whatsapp UPI feature on
your phone:
ü Users who already have the feature need
to go their friend’s profile on whatsapp.
ü After that, they just need to click on
attachment icon.
ü This will show a pop-up where they can
see payment icon.Click on payment icon.
ü This will give them an error which says
that their friend does not have whatsapp UPI feature.
ü Click ok.
ü That’s it.you have just enabled
Whatsapp UPI Payment feature for your friend.
ü Now ask your friend to check for the
UPI feature, he / she will surely see the Payment option.
Once Payments option available for you? Follow these steps to proceed
ü Go to Settings within
the app and select “Payment”
ü Verify your mobile
number in order to link with your bank account
ü Once you’ve linked
your mobile number, head over to the chat user
ü At this point, you
can pay another user from within the message interface using a 4 digit PIN as a
password.
ü Once this process is
completed, WhatsApp will show you the bank account associated with your number.
Simply hit Done to finish the setup
process.
ü Once you submit these
details and the setup is complete,view the chat to whom ou want to send the
money, go to the Payment option, enter the
amount you want to send, and tap Send.
