In this article I'm going to show you, how to find the Autocad backup file location. 

  • If you mistakenly closed the AutoCAD file without saving and you need the file later. 

Just go to the temp folder as shown in the below video.  And make a copy and rename the extension from bak to dwg.

Then only you can open file for further use. 



  • If your drawing closed by the AutoCAD  fatal error file without saving and you need the file later. 

Just go to the temp folder as shown in the below video. And make a copy and rename the extension from sv$  to dwg.

Then only you can open file for further use. 

 


Autocad backup file location  via AutoCAD Command

Open the Options and switch to tab "Files"

Switch to the node "Automatic Save File Location"

In this node you can look or set the location where these files will be saved.

Here you can change the location by double-click on the path and choose another location.

Note: You can rename the file extension  sv$ of these files to  *.dwg. Then you can open those files directly.
